India tells him, Don’t You Ever Come Around Here
Don’t Wanna See Your Face, You Better Disappear
The Fire’s In our Eyes And our Words Are Really Clear
So Bt It, Just Bt It
India has seen off Monsanto’s genetically modified Brinjal for now. The main selling plank of Bt Brinjal is that it requires less fertilizers and pesticides. The Organic farming methods like vermiculture are much better alternatives. But the Chemicals & Fertilizers lobby is strong …..

    Dear Reader (Feb 9, 2010)

    Dear  Reader,
The student of the NID probably had some designs in mind while approaching the former DGP with a knife. One need not be a designer or a top notch police man to infer what the motive could have been. He wanted to carve a new identity for the man responsible for destroying Ruchika Girhotra’s. The Law had already decided that the ex-policeman’s actions were morally Rathore unsound. But the sentence may not have seemed enough. Believe he had just about started when the cops caught him.  Many artists’ hands get tied by circumstances and society’s rules. While Rathore’s wounds may heal, the Girhotra family’s may never. One only hopes the Scare is on all such errant cops.

    Dear Reader, (Feb 8, 2010)

The first two days of the first Test match between India and South Africa has gone the visitors way. Zaheer Khan gave some hopes in the first hour of the match. Then on, it has been Jacques’ and Hashim’s play ground. Amla made a ‘churan’ of the Indian attack. Local fans saw nothing to Kallis the No 1 Official Test side in the world.

    Feb 5, 2010 Dear Reader,

It is said of the great Indian epic Mahabharata, ‘Whatever happens in Life, finds a mention/echo in it. If the Mahabharata does not refer to something, it  can never be’. Draupadi a proud and learned princess, is unfairly  pledged by her husband in a game of dice. When she is dragged into the Royal court, she asks the Elders there the following:
1>What right did an husband have to pledge his wife? 2>Also did he pledge her while still a free man or after pledging himself first and losing his own independence. In the latter  case, how could a slave pledge a free woman’s independence.
Draupadi’s plight could be due to her partner’s indiscretion or weakness for the royal game of dice. But Srikrishna saves Draupadi’s honour and the Elders finally step in to restore sanity.
The people of Andhra Pradesh are justified in being as agitated as
Draupadi once was. Hope the Srikrishna Committee provides succour.

Tags: Beijing Olympics, , family pet, foreign rule, government advertisements, second chief minister in meghalaya, Sonia Gandhi, Suresh Kalmadi,

    Dear Reader (1st Feb, 2010)

    Dear Reader,

We are seeing a lot of ‘firsts’ with the Congress and this Congress regime. A few are captured below….

    > A foreigner takes over the reins of the Congress Party, the party we once used to be proud of, for having thrown off the foreign yoke.

    > Sonia Gandhi’s face appears in all government advertisements. One used to see photographs of politicians occupying official positions in government releases. But the photograph of the person heading the party which is the major constituent of the coalition forming the government is a ‘first’.

    > Another first is a non-Indian government representative (Sonia Gandhi) going to the Beijing Olympics as India’s representative. Her son and daughter joined her. Not sure whether any other family pet also accompanied. Mr. Suresh Kalmadi anyway was already in Beijing to receive them. While his country men hope he has better goals in mind, Kalmadi scores these brownie points by lobbying for Sonia vis a vis our PM or President.

    > But the latest first would be the funniest, if it were not alarming. The Congress has decided to try second. It has decided to appoint a rebel party-man as second CM in Meghalaya. This definitely clouds Constitutional propriety. Mamma mia !

    Dear Reader (29 Jan, 2010)

    Dear Reader,

Possibly the time has come for India to make its own Mission/Vision statement that is SMART, as management professionals say. Specific, Measurable, Ambitious, Realistic and Time-bound. I would also like to add ‘pro-India’, in addition to the above five adjectives.

The immediate trigger for this thought is China making its military ambitions increasingly clear. The global goon, has successfully kept its military apparatus well-oiled under the more sophisticated ‘Mission statement’ – ‘The Business of America is Business’ as its past President Calvin Coolidge had said. India needs to take a leaf from Joseph Heller’s Catch-22. Captured here is the protagonist, Yossarian’s discussion with his Commanding Officer.

Yossarian: “From now on, I am going to think only of myself.”

Supervisor: “But Yossarian, just imagine what would happen if everyone in the world thinks likewise”

Yossarian: “Then I will be a damned fool not to think so”.

In the First Gulf War, ‘Operation Desert Storm’,.the US made a profit by coordinating Saddam’s exit from Kuwait. The next war to occupy Iraq was by falsely accusing Saddam Hussain of hoarding WMD and attempting to find and destroy it. The occupation is helping American Business in controlling Iraq’s Oil business and other Infrastructure requirements. The US continuing to prop up Karzai in Afghanistan despite enough evidence of his family abusing their position etc. Closer home, but not the least, urging India to exercise restraint post 26/11, when the US has leveraged the 9/11 very well.

Yes, a few American lives have also been or are being lost – in Iraq, Afghanistan etc. But then, that is a small price to pay. It also helps to keep the American Halo shining and the more gullible, blinded. The Nobel Peace Prize doesn’t harm nor does it weigh heavy…..

Google has long been gagged in China. Some pain to live with, for the pleasure of being engaged with the Dragon. Now it is crying foul and threatening to exit. Yahoo for one is nodding.NewsTikka.com Team

The immediate reason for Google’s displeasure is the hacking of Google’s systems, allegedly by Chinese agents to target human rights activists in China. Google with its corporate ideal of ‘Don’t be Evil’ is an exception in Amercia, though it has been late in realizing it. Google or not, there is a gaggle of corporates still in China doing business. Economics precedes Ethics not only in the dictionary. As an Amercian President had said,’The Business of America is Business.’ Ethics or absence of it is sometimes an inconvenient reality that Businesses have to stoically bear.

    Dear Reader (Jan 13, 2010)

The Delhi High Court again proves that the Judiciary is an important asset. Its ruling that the CJI is also covered under the RTI Act definitely warms the common man’s heart. But possibly Shri. KG Balakrishnan may not be happy. He may feel such transparency should only be for the district level judges. One believes opacity of any kind is more dangerous at higher levels.

Also, the Judiciary at any level is no Caesar’s wife. It is the citizen’s Lifeline. As such, we can and should take no chances. As the Ramayana says, not only is it important that the Chief is Just, but is also seen to be. In any case he or she cannot be balky.

    Dear Reader( Jan 9,2010)

When the former President of India, Shri R. Venkataraman was minister in his younger days, he had visited Japan and finalized some plants to be set up in India. Before departing he was offered ‘commission’ for the deal. He demanded another plant for India in lieu of the kick-back.  The news item on NHAI Billboards reflects the rot in present-day public life. NHAI officials could have utilized the Rs. 100 Cr ores for public good.TheNewsTikka.com Team
